Stan Weiss
Head Coach

Stan Weiss has been involved in hockey coaching and administration for over 20 years. He has coached Tier 1 (AAA) hockey for 8 years (in Toronto, Canada) where his Wexford Raiders teams won 17 of 23 major international tournaments including a world championship at the Novice (Mites) level. The team also earned the runner-up position to the Russian Red Army Elite team in a second world championship at the Minor Peewee level. Mr. Weiss coached his AAA teams to 4 Metro Toronto Hockey League Championships and an All-Ontario Championship (in its only year of eligibility).

After moving to Utah, Mr. Weiss successfully owned, operated and coached the Utah Valley Golden Eagles Junior Hockey Team for 6 years. His teams were consistently in the upper echelons of the Western States Hockey League and made the playoffs in every year of competition. The Utah Valley Golden Eagles also produced the first AAA Midget hockey team in Utah, and were the Southwest Hockey League Regular Season Champions in its only year of operation.

Mr. Weiss feels privileged to be involved with the 2008/09 BYU Cougars Hockey Team and looks forward to a very successful season.
 
Joel Patrick
Assistant Coach

Coach Patrick was born and raised in Frankford, Ontario, Canada, a small town about 100 miles east of Toronto and played competitive youth hockey there for 12 years while growing up. Mr. Patrick attended BYU, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Marketing. While there, he met and married his wife Derelys. Mr. Patrick's career had been in product development and marketing for computer software and nutritional supplement companies.

In addition to his job responsibilities, Coach Patrick has spent the last 15 years coaching his three sons, Josh, Brandon and Mitch on their competitive youth hockey teams from Mites through Midget, and high school. The organizations he has coached for include the Provo Predators, Utah Stars, Puget Sound Tomahawks and Timpanogos Timberwolves. In addition, Coach Patrick spent seven years as the USA Hockey Coaching Education Coordinator for Utah. While there, he trained and certified over 500 youth and high school coaches. Mr. Patrick has also served in many hockey administrative roles such as General Manager for the Utah Valley Golden Eagles and as Director of Coaching for the Provo Predators. Coach Patrick is an avid hockey fan and longs for the day when he will see his favorite team the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup again. Joel and Derelys have four children including their eight year-old daughter Tori. The Patrick's live in Orem, Utah.
 
Dave Spice
Assistant Coach/Goalie Coach

Dave is a native Canadian born in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated from BYU in 1991 and is now married with 3 children. He was priveleged to be the practice goalie for the Czech Olympic team during the 2002 Winter Olympics. He is a level 3 USA Hockey Official and has a level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification.

Dave's coaching experience in Utah started with 3 years as assistant coach to the Utah Valley Golden Eagles (Junior B) team. In 2001 he began coaching the Timpanogos High School team which he still coaches today. That team has made it to the State Championship three times winning one of the three times. Dave has also been assistant or head coach of the Utah Stars PeeWee A and Bantam AA teams, as well as head coach of the Rocky Mountain Renegades U16 AA team. He has also been an assistant coach for Team Northwest in the Chicago Showcase from 2005-2008.
 
Douglas Kimball
Assistant Coach/General Manager

Born and raised in Draper, Utah, Coach Kimball learned how to skate and play hockey on his best friend's pond and taking tips from some of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles' players he got to practice with on occasion. He played for Alta High and UVSC's hockey team as Assistant Captain several years ago.

Prior to coming to the Cougars, Coach Kimball was head coach for Alta High's hockey team for 8 years. Now into his third year with the team, he has the added responsibility of being the team's General Manager. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at UVSC and is currently a software developer on the NTS Information Technology Tools Team at Novell.

Doug, a life-long fan of BYU sports, is looking forward to continue working with the Cougars and in keeping and building upon the great reputation that BYU has for athletics in conduct and skill, and that it is an honor to be recognized as the BYU Cougars.
